Richard McClintock, a Latin lecturer at Hampden-Sydney University in Virginia, looked more closely at one of the most obscure words in Lorem Ipsum - consectetur - and after many searches he found an undeniable source: Lorem Ipsum comes from fragments (1.10.32 and 1.10.33) " de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum ", meaning" On the border of good and evil ", written just in 45 BC by Cicero. This is a very popular dissertation on ethics during the Renaissance. The first poem by Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet ..." comes from section 1.10.32. Summary:

the issue of sexuality of people with disabilities, particularly people with more severe disabilities, is currently a topic of interest and research and also theoretical analysis and searching for proper practice regarding chosen persons and the environments connected to these persons. Because of the specificity and the essentially private nature of the problem (especially regarding the issue of sex education), it causes many controversies not only in the perspective of a given mentality, social attitudes, rights but also strategic, organizational, methodological and ethical solutions. Hence, the content of the article attempts to shift the subject of sexuality of people with disabilities to a deeper continuum: a person with a disability ↔ specialists ↔ family of a disabled person.

Occupational therapy workshops as a form of professional activation for adults with intellectualdisabilities

Summary:

The article presents the importance of occupational therapy (OT) in the rehabilitation of adults with moderate intellectual disability. The introduction explains the concept of adulthood and highlights its main features and stages. Subsequently, different approaches to the term of occupational therapy were presented, as well as the institutional tasks in the area of rehabilitation and OT. Then, based on the results of the diagnostic tests, the author describes the course of the occupational rehabilitation process in the OT, its advantages and limitations and the role of employees (practical training instructors, psychologists and vocational counselors).

Courtesy stigma in partners of persons with motor disability. Attempting to construct a scale.

Summary:

The article presents an analysis of the psychometric properties of a scale designed by the authors of the study to conduct research into courtesy stigma. Scale reliability and validity were assessed on the basis of an exploration conducted with spouses of persons with motor disabilities (of different etiology). Highly satisfactory indicators have been obtained in this respect. In the course of the factor analysis three main aspects of courtesy stigma were identified, corresponding to the proposed in the literature structure, i.e., affective /emotional, cognitive and behavioral. The developed scale (with proven psychometric properties) can be used to determine courtesy stigma in the context of stigmatization experiences connected with being a partner of a disabled person and the experiences of the disabled partner observed by the able-bodied spouse.

Receiving sounds by deaf people

Summary:

In today’s world more and more people have hearing problems. Hearing loss is found in both adults and children. Suitable support of the hearing system allows these people to have a full and comfortable life in society. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to use hearing aids and implants. Despite this fact, deaf people are somehow able to receive some of the sounds from their surroundings. The main aim of this research is to find an as accurate answer to the phenomenon as possible. In 20th century as an explanation to this phenomenon, a theory of vibration sense (Revesz 2001) was established. This sense was supposed to be in charge of receiving and analysis of sensations related to sound. In the presented research this theory was tested in two subjective tests – audiometry (concentrated on sensing vibrations) and body maps. One objective test was performed as well – an EEG. It allowed the author to monitor brain activity during silence and while receiving stimuli

Summary:

The article is bringing the issue of the normalization space of persons with ASD in the context of the integrated daily support center. It discusses theoretical issues and includes a description of the author's concept of the change of the daily support center for children into an integration center. Presented theses and characteristics of changes in the organization and forms of work of the environmental center, was supported by a description of the case of a boy with ASD.

Adulthood of women with motor disability – chances and risks

Summary:

In the paper there is analysed notion of adulthood in the objective and subjective perspective. There are presented indicated by R. Harvighurst developmental tasks specific for the adulthood. There is analysed specificity of the disability acquired in the early stage of life and limitation of the chances in adulthood, treated as their consequences. There are presented barriers and risks connected with the disabled women’s adulthood (especiall related to the motor disability) and women’s situation related to the functioning in the social roles. There are discussed risks that appeared in the adulthood of 36 women and the possibilities of receiving support related to resolving social problems connected with the functioning in social roles.

Challenges for disabled students facing a university

Summary:

The aim of the article is to try to address the challenges faced by higher education institutions in terms of their accessibility to people with disabilities. Discussing this issue is very important from the point of view of current social and educational policy towards people with disabilities in Poland, as in the last dozen or so years it can be noticed that the number of students with disabilities at Polish universities is increasing considerably. The article will highlight the barriers selected, but also how to remove them, as disabled students may become disabled participants in the education process, provided that their specific needs are properly diagnosed, interpreted and met. The analyzes and recommendations will be based on the report of the Ombudsman: ,,Availability of academic education for people with disabilities. Analysis and recommendations (Principle of equal treatment - law and practice, no. 16) ".

Summary:

Early development support is a necessary and intensively developing form of support for children and their families these days. It embraces three mutually-dependent subjects: children, families and specialists. The characteristics of these subjects, their individual potential, engagement and readiness for cooperation determine the effectiveness of the whole process. The authors of the article aim at outlining theoretical and legal basis for early development support for children with disabilities in Poland. They also aim at describing and analyzing the findings of the research concerning not only parents’ and specialists’ perception of the role of a family in early development support of children with disabilities but also needs and expectations towards specialists reported by parents, experienced difficulties, and possibilities of supporting their activities.
