Summary:

Introduction and aim of the study: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignant tumor among women and it remains a significant social problem worldwide.Breast cancer is considered to be a milestone in the woman’s life, which has a significant impact on her daily life and psychosocial activity. Social support seems to be one of effective ways of coping with consequences of the illness. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of help given to women with cancer – recognizing the social sources of support and describing their meaning in terms of coping with the illness.
Material and methods: The researched group comprised of patients after major surgical procedure (mastectomy) as a part of breast cancer treatment. On the whole, 86 women from Amazons Clubs were interviewed. The research was conducted on the basis of an original survey questionnaire, which was comprised of questions about the sources and forms of support for those affected by cancer as well as the level of satisfaction with the received help.
Results: The vast majority of participants were satisfied because of received support (97%) and they found it valuable for the adaptation to the new life situation (88%). The biggest source of support was immediate family. It was also important to receive help from women in a similar situation – members of the self-aid group.
Conclusions: Strong support, encouraging active lifestyle and positive attitude towards the treatment can help in keeping life balance while struggling with an illness. In such a difficult time it is especially important to have support of close relatives and being a member of the Amazons group.

Summary:

The aim of the article is to draw attention primarily to the innovativeness of social workers and other aid professions. It is worth noting that the latter aspect is of particular importance in empowerment strategies, in the philosophy of empowerment. Particularly in the case of people with disabilities, it is worth listening to their voice, respecting the Madrid Declaration’s flagship motto „Nothing about us without us”. Th is also important when talking about innovations in this type of environment.

Summary:

If one wanted to put it short, “What has changed in operations of daycare centers for people with disabilities due to pandemic and pandemic-related restrictions?” – one should use the word: “everything.” All familiar activities, from daily face-to face meetings to group meetings to the work with therapists and caretakers, have been replaced by phone calls, instant messaging, emails, teleconferences and online meetings. However, there is also a positive side to it: the increase of creativity and parents’ engagement and the possibility of getting to know the participants from completely different angles.

During several years of work with patients whose speech disorders have a neurological background, in parallel with my work on communication possibilities, I conduct therapy of swallowing disorders that coexist with other diseases.
In this article I would like to present the stages of a comprehensive neurologopedic diagnosis as well as the tools used in the study and supporting in making an accurate diagnosis, which is the basis for creating an individualized therapy plan. The patient who underwent the examination is Krzysztof, whose dysphagia is a consequence of damage to the central nervous system (CNS), or rather cerebrovascular diseases.
The article was written on the basis of medical records, kept from the beginning of the disease. Set of examinations the patient underwent and consultations with specialists from various branches of medicine played a key role. The interview with the patient himself and his family was also invaluable.

Summary:

Background: Electromyography is a measurement of an electrical signal which is closely related to a particular muscle contraction. The possibility of repeated, coherent and uniform measurements help in the diagnosis and control of disease, the process of rehabilitation and assessment of the effects of treatment. The aim of the study was to assess and analyze the electrical signal the back extensor muscle after muscle relaxation ( frontal muscle and aponeurosis).
Methods: Participant in the study was a man 44 years of age with pain in his spine. The research method was to evaluate the tension of the back extensor muscle before and after administration of a muscle relaxant therapy using surface electrodes. The survey was con- ducted 10 times at two day intervals. The tested patient was subjected to relaxation of the frontal muscle and aponeurosis on head using the fascial technique. The time of the therapeutic technique used was 6 minutes.
Results: The values of the parameters are different from each other. Before the therapy, fewer motor units were involved in maintaining the given position than after the therapy.

Conclusions: The decrease in muscle tone is transmitted along the course of the superficial posterior tape. Increased number of muscle fibers involved can provide a more economical use of the capabilities of the muscle. The force necessary to maintain the position is distributed over more motor units and thus causes the ‚fatigue’ of the muscle to decrease more slowly
