Olfaction is a sense associated mainly with the sensation of smells. This is one of many roles of this sense. The article will briefly describe the sense of smell and me-thods of its examination. The main purpose of the article is to describe olfactory disability - causes and types. The consequences of losing the ability to smell odors from the perspective of daily activities are characterized. The main idea of the article is spreading the interest in smell and its disorders, because it seems that these are subjects treated marginally.
Suffering or watching someone suffer, can shake the very foundations of the meaning of one’s world. Understood in this way, suffe-ring forces upon us a philosophical crisis very much like the problem of evil for a theodicy. Rather than the goodness of God, what is at stake in this article is the goodness of being. However, our existential investigation can learn important things from a more theolo-gically oriented theodicy. In this vein, I argue that in order to see the world as good and meaningful in the face of an existentially di-sorienting event of suffering—which I under-stand to be at root a dis-ability—we will be-nefit from the way Marilyn McCord Adams argues that suffering can be redemptive in her philosophy of God, particularly when put into dialogue with Paul Ricoeur’s more ontologically oriented hermeneutical pheno-menology.
The purpose of this article is to present a section of the German-speaking discussion in the field of disability education, which addresses the determinations of ‚ability’ and ‚inability’ based on the background of (universal) anthropological interpretations of the dimensions of Bildsamkeit and education. Their point of departure is the explanations given in the general development tendencies to discourse on anthropology in the field of disability education, as well as comments on dealing with the concept of disability – also in the context of German-language Disability Studies.
Since education is based on a quasi-optimistic operational premise, the explanations prima-rily focus on the aspect of ability or aptitude. Inability forms the central delimitation reference here. It will be shown to what extent inability within disability education is abolished / refuted as an anthropological category.
In this paper we aim to meditate on Maine de Biran’s modernity with regard to the subject of a philosophy of anxiety and agoraphobic anxiety. Biran first notes a connection between anxiety and motility; secondly, Biran invites us to think of intersubjectivity as something that is not foreign to the sensation of anxiety; Third, Biran feels “surprised several times”, as if his own anxiety, while interior, is something that seems to originate from outside.
